In-House Lead Safety Training
As surface preparation specialists, our work sometimes involves removing old coatings that contain lead-based paint. While this is a necessary part of restoring and preparing surfaces safely and professionally, it also presents specific health risks that must be managed with care and expertise.
Lead-based products can be harmful if not handled correctly. Exposure to lead dust or particles can impact health over time, which is why understanding how lead affects the body, how exposure occurs, and how to protect against it is essential for anyone working in environments where lead may be present.
Our method of ensuring our team is fully protected and confident in their work is by carrying out comprehensive in-house lead safety training. This training covers:
- Safe removal methods for lead-based paint
- Understanding the health risks associated with lead
- Correct use of PPE
- Control measures required under the Control of Lead at Work Regulations

In addition, we conduct regular occupational health checks for employees who may be exposed to lead. These include:
- Blood screening every three weeks
- Measuring lead levels in the blood (in micrograms per decilitre)
- Ensuring our protective measures are working effectively
This proactive monitoring is an important part of our compliance with health and safety legislation, and most importantly, it helps us protect the wellbeing of our team.
Our employees are not adverse to working with lead-based materials because they are equipped with the right training, procedures, and protective systems. These extra precautions ensure they can carry out their work safely, confidently, and in full compliance with industry standards.
A notable example of our lead-related work was with 8Buiild on a project in London, where we were responsible for removing lead-based paint from walls during the surface preparation phase. Thanks to our rigorous training and monitoring systems, this was completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest professional standard.
