Northstowe Community Centre

We carried out fire protection works at Northstowe Community Centre, a key community development centre located in Cambridge. The project involved the application of a fire-resistant varnish to cross-laminated timber (CLT) elements throughout the building.

CLT is increasingly used in modern construction due to its sustainability, strength, and architectural appeal. However, ensuring that exposed timber meets the required fire safety standards is essential. We carried out works to enhance the fire performance of the timber while maintaining the natural appearance and integrity of the wood.

Using a fire-resistant varnish system, we carefully treated the CLT surfaces to provide effective fire protection without compromising the visual quality of the finished structure. The application was carried out in accordance with relevant fire safety requirements.

These works were completed on behalf of Kier Construction Ltd – Eastern & Midlands, and we worked closely with their site team to coordinate the programme efficiently and safely.

We are proud to have succesfully delivered this finish, supporting a project that combines modern construction methods with community-focused design and safety.
