Type A Hangar Refurbishment

The classic form of a Type A RAF Hangar instantly recognisable – from the long brick elevations along the sides to the exposed steel roof trusses spanning the full width of the building. These inter-war hangars, originally built for the Royal Air Force, some of the most impressive and durable aviation structures still in use today.

We have developed a strong specialism in the refurbishment of Type A hangars, having completed numerous projects of this kind over the years. This example above demonstrates the characteristic scale and structural form that makes these buildings so distinctive, particularly the brickwork to the elevations and the large trusses visible overhead.

Projects of this nature often require a comprehensive refurbishment approach. Works frequently include the safe removal of legacy coatings such as lead-based paint from internal steelwork, the preparation and application of modern protective paint systems, and where required the installation of high-performance floor coatings to bring the hangar back into reliable long-term service.

We pride ourselves in protecting and ensuring that these aviation structures remain functional and ready for action!
