What is vacuum blasting?
Vacuum blasting is a specialist form of abrasive blasting that allows us to prepare surfaces while keeping the surrounding environment clean and controlled.
It works by blasting abrasive media onto the surface to remove coatings, corrosion, or contaminants, while a vacuum system simultaneously recovers the debris and spent abrasive at source. This means the process produces minimal dust and waste, making it ideal for sensitive environments.
Compared to traditional blasting, vacuum blasting offers:
- A much cleaner working environment
- Reduced containment and clean-up
- Safer removal of hazardous coatings, including lead-based paint
- More efficient use of abrasive materials

We have previously carried out vacuum blasting works at Morley College, where maintaining a clean site was essential. Using this method allowed us to effectively prepare surfaces without impacting surrounding areas, while still achieving the required finish for further coating works.
